MINDFUL WAYS TO OPTIMIZE YOUR HEALTH

Growing up, I learned to rely on numbers. I’m pretty analytical, good at using math to prove any hypothesis. Nonetheless, when the 2020 pandemic began, I was curious about the numbers behind it and dug into whatever research I could find.

Unfortunately, early on what I came across was a strong pattern of confirmation bias revealing itself. There seemed to be a heavy reliance on sketchy mathematical projections and illogically weighted “correction factors,” just to name a few that I encountered. It felt like I was watching a global shell game, carried out on so many levels. In other words, these were not numbers based on empirical evidence.

When my clients shared their concerns, I turned their attention to factors they could count on:

  • Strengthening your immune system to fight off viruses.

  • Scheduling a Functional Genomics Consult to review your genetics and identify areas where your body might need additional support to maintain or regain optimum health.

  • Taking time for yourself. Self-care isn’t selfish. Go for a walk, get some fresh air, and clear your mind.

  • Eating nourishing foods and cutting down on sugar.

  • Starting a gratitude journal. Make a list of the positive things that happened in your day and why they made you happy. It’s a great way to reduce stress.

  • Doing your best to stop worrying. Stop trying to carry the world on your shoulders. Leave that to a higher power.

The fact is, the human body was created to accept and interact with a wide range of viruses, not all of them good. But, at the end of the day we still need a good foundation to optimize our human performance.

One solution, a simple one, is to ask for help or offer to help another. Skills every one of us needs to improve upon. Reach out and call a friend, just to say, “How are you doing?” Listen and be there for just a moment, really let them know they have your attention. Leave a cheerful note in your neighbor’s mailbox. Give to others and let them soothe your worries as well. We need to connect and show kindness whenever we can.

When you’re feeling drained, take time to take care of you. Give us a call or check out our latest online offerings. With everything going on in the world, self-care isn’t just “something nice to do, someday.” This is an essential tool for all of us. We thrive by human contact. It’s important to be there, for those we love, and those around us.
