WHAT ARE YOU PUTTING OFF?

I want to share with you an observation I made this morning. Every once in a while, we’re an observer in our life instead of the one living it. And this morning was one of those times when I was on the outside observing myself.

As many of you know, I take cold showers and I start my mornings with a cold shower. I love that practice, even though it’s freezing cold for about 2 minutes. I love that practice, even though it’s freezing cold and it’s uncomfortable, I love the feeling that I get afterwards. It also allows me to practice gratitude waiting for the warm water to come. There are some mornings that I chicken out and just jump into a warm shower.

This morning, as an observer, I caught myself delaying getting into the shower because I knew that I was gonna do the cold and wanted to get into the flow state I love so much. But I was delaying getting into the shower, finding anything else I could do to distract myself from getting into the shower.

So, it came down to the last minute and I finally got into the shower. It was as I was in the cold shower and practicing gratitude for the warm water to come, that I realized “Oh my gosh, where else in your life are you delaying putting things off because of the discomfort?”

I just wanted to share that with you to see if you could look within yourself, is there anywhere in your life that you’re putting things off? Not because you don’t want to do it, but because you’re putting off the discomfort you’ll feel when you do have to do it.

As an observer, I know there are a few other places that I’m doing that in my life and I’m going to look at it a little bit differently. I also invite you, to look at the things that you’re putting off, even if it’s something on your to-do list that you love to do and ask yourself, am I putting it off because it’s going to stimulate some discomfort. Either emotional feelings of discomfort or physical discomfort?
