AUTUMN SELF-CARE TIPS

The shift to fall is upon us! During this time of year, we will witness the many signs that Mother Nature is beginning to prepare for the cooler months. Animals will instinctively start stocking their pantries, gathering food for the winter. And the leaves begin to change, reminding us just how beautiful it can be to let things go.

So, what can we do to be kinder to ourselves during this time? Here are some simple self-care tips for fall (and beyond) to help you slow down and nourish your mind, body, and spirit.

Get outside and enjoy some nature therapy. This is a beautiful time of year in the Adirondacks to enjoy the fall foliage, breathe in the cooler air, and enjoy the sunshine. Here’s a map of when we can expect peak ADK fall foliage.

Pull up your rocking chair and get your rock on! I love to set aside some time to do lymphatic rocking chair therapy to stimulate my digestion and calm my nervous system. Our lymphatic system can get thick and congested in the colder months. Movement and proper hydration will help to thin it out, making our skin and body feel better when our lymph is moving.

Enjoy a warming cup of tea. Try an organic herbal tea for detox or to calm your nervous system. My favorite is Tulsi tea (also known as Holy Basil) because it's delicious and has numerous health benefits! If you don’t have Tulsi in your tea stash, you can purchase it through my Fullscript Dispensary

Read a book. Get cozy and curl up with a warm blanket and a good book. Here are just a few of the books I’ve been diving into. Try leaving your phone in the other room too so you can unplug and enjoy the moment.

Bake a pie! I love to bake and I especially love hacking recipes to make them healthier for my family. One of my favorites is Crustless Pumpkin Pie. Not only is it the perfect cozy desert, but it also the combo of pumpkin, coconut cream, and cinnamon is detoxifying and helps promote digestion. Oh, and did I mention it makes your house smell delicious!

Get your rest. At the end of the day, give yourself permission to let go. Sleep is essential. Adequate, good-quality sleep is one of the best things we can do for our immune system. I strive for 7-9 hours per night and I love my sleep mask and mouth taping. Here are some helpful sleep tips to improve your sleep.
